Foreign tourists are expected to pay a fee of $350 pesos to enter Baja California Sur and plan to stay in the state for more than 24 hours. This initiative is included in the 2017 tax package, which is about to be authorized.

The state’s Secretary of Finance and Administration takes into account that paying 350 pesos does not represent much for foreign tourists, so it will not affect the tourist flow in the area.

The reason for the new tax on foreign tourists was to tax the use of state public infrastructure, for an amount of 350 pesos per visitor, which would expect an additional income of up to 147 million pesos during 2017.

This use does not represent any burden for the inhabitants of Baja California Sur or for national tourists. It is believed that the collection of 350 pesos will be an income for the state that does not affect the tourist flow, and that represents an important collection of resources that can be allocated to applications of social order, education, culture, sports, public safety and the improvement of public infrastructure, which is in the interest of all South Californians.
